2007 Calendar of Events
If you are interested in more information or joining us on any of the above hikes write us a comment here. The following provides a little more information on the Wellspring hikes for 2007. The goal of all our hikes is to help others connect with God in a new and fresh way. We believe by removing ourselves from the busyness of life, and taking time in God’s magnificent creation, our hearts are more open and receptive to hearing his still, quiet voice. May 19, 2007 – Wild Basin Hike
This is an 8 mile round trip highlighted by some waterfalls and great views of Mount Meeker. This hike is a an easy journey for most, with little elevation gain. We will leave from the Wild Basin trailhead at 8:30 a.m.
Focus: “Be still and know that I am God” This will be closer look at Psalm 46.
June 16, 2007 – Fern Lake/Cub Lake RMNP
This hike is also an 8 mile round trip, the highlight of the trip being the final destination, Fern Lake. Fern Lake is a beautiful mountain lake with lots of friendly fish, and a location that is tucked into a mountain basin. The last mile to the lake is the most strenuous stretch as the trail ascends to the lake. About halfway up this stretch is an awesome rushing waterfall, a natural place to take a break for the final push. On the way down you might get lucky and see a bear. We will plan to start our day at the Fern Lake trail head with a time of silence and prayer. We will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Focus: The parable of the Prodigal Son. Our focus will not be just on the younger son, but on the elder son and father. This will be a time to meditate on how we have lived out the roles of both sons and perhaps in some situations are called to be the father who welcomes back. The book The Return of the Prodigal Son by Henri Nouwen will serve as guide to our discussion. Hikers are encouraged to read this before the hike.
July 14, 2007 – A beautiful 5-mile round-trip hike to Blue Lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness area. Blue Lake will reward us with a stunning waterfall, wildflowers along the way, and the majesty of Mt. Toll. Meet at the trailhead near Brainard Lake at 8:30 to join us. Or contact us to meet and carpool.
Focus: This hike’s theme is “How does God Speak to Us? A great topic to get outdoors and discover.
August 17-18, 2007 – A trek from Bear Lake across the length of Rocky Mountain National Park. This is a 19 mile hike with an overnight camp in the back country of RMNP. We will arrange for a ride from the west side of RMNP back to our starting point.
Focus: This hike will be geared as an adventure for fathers, sons, men. This will provide an opportunity for fathers to share with their sons the lessons learned on their journey through life, for men to understand their role in the kingdom and to help each other to connect on this grand trek. More information soon.
September, 2007 A hike to see the fall colors in the high country.
November, 2007 – A two day quiet retreat tentatively planned for the Y camp in Estes Park Colorado Focus: This retreat will help participants consider how to incorporate the priorities of Communion with God, Community with others, and Commitment to the Journey of Faith. Participants will engage personally in each of these 3 areas and will be challenged to consider how to incorporate them more fully into their life. The mountain setting will lend itself well to times of solitude and seeking God in silence and plenty of time will be set aside for hearing from God personally. This will be a time to refresh the soul and prepare ourselves for the journey of faith that awaits us upon re-entry back into our lives of schedules and appointments.Wellspring Copyright 2007
Blessings on your Journey with God
Hi Scott. Used to attend sanctum up in Longmont. I think I met you there and you gave me the URL to this site. Moving down to Lakewood, so Sanctum isn’t really an option for me anymore. These hikes sounds like fun. Could you tell me more about the July hike up in Indian Peaks? The 19 mile hike in ROMO sounds great too. Unfortunatly, don’t think I fit into the category of father/son:) I’ve also been reviewing various chapters of Dan’s book on my blog. Check it out if you get a chance.
Greetings Lisa – I like your blog. I’ll have to look at it more closely, especially your review of Dan’s book. I enjoyed his book and offered a short review on Amazon.
The July hike we may also consider a 14′er. I’ll keep you posted on it. You are welcome on any of them, but you are right you might not fit the profile for the August one
We miss you at Sanctum.

Looks like a great turnout for your first hike Dave!
I hope all were blessed with the efforts you put forth to provide the focus. Look forward to making it to at least one of the summer’s hikes!!
