They pressed into service a passer-by, Simon, a Cyrenian who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.–Mark 15:21
Would you have been ready? Would you have been available to carry Jesus cross? I’m not talking about whether you had a free moment or not, I am talking about whether you would have responded or not. Would you have sprung into action in that moment, or would you have hesitated? Jesus wants us to serve him. We have opportunities everyday to serve him. I am afraid, that more often than not, I hesitate, I wait, and I miss opportunities to serve Jesus.
The scripture says that Simon was “pressed” into service. It’s difficult to determine Simon’s state of mind in that moment, but what we do know, is that somehow, some way, he was compelled to help Jesus by carrying his cross. He was compelled to serve him.
What about you? What about me?
Are we ready to serve Jesus?
Lord, open our hearts to your movements everyday. We offer you complete control over our schedules, our relationships, and our agenda’s. We long to be people who are completely available to your leading in our life.
